What to expect during the major phases of construction
Building your own home is one of the most exciting endeavours you can undertake in your lifetime. We understand it's a big investment; that's why we want you to be in the know every step of the way.
Keep in mind that home building can vary from builder to builder. We've outlined our thoughts on what you can expect below.
Whether you're looking for a pre-designed plan or a have a design in mind, we can steer you in the right direction.
2. Purchasing a Lot
We can advise on lots of land i.e. the going rate per acre and by neighbourhood.
3. Footings, foundation and framing
The build starts with pouring the footers. This means, once the footers have been put in place and have passed inspection, we will pour the concrete slab of your foundation. Your home will then have a stable structure for framing.
4. Internal features
Your basic structure has been built. Now we can focus on features and functions such as heating and cooling units. If you're wanting to install home security, solar panels and other special infrastructure, now is the time to include it.
5. Flooring and paint
At this stage, your house consists of concrete, wood, insulation and wires. We can now work on the interior by adding flooring and decorating.
6. Fixtures and appliances
The end is now in sight. We'll call in subcontractors at this point to install the final fixtures and features including counter tops, lights, plugs and appliances.
7. Final details
Now is the time to walk through your home and note down final details you would like the builder to work on. We'll tie up the loose ends and leave you to enjoy your new home.
